Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

Some people immediately take their chance when they are enchanted by pure beauty, while others wait patiently, hoping to meet “the real deal” eventually. To those who have been waiting: now is the time to strike, because it won’t get any better than this highly unique, exceptionally beautiful 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL with matching numbers! A completely and perfectly restored classic, brought back in concours condition. Do we have your attention?

History

France is a beautiful holiday destination. And from now on we also know that its residents have a good taste for cars. The former owner who possessed this special SL is a French car collector. It’s also the man who’s responsible for the excellent shape of the Mercedes you’re looking at. In its current form, the Benz has driven only 960 (!) kilometers. Wow.
And the star of German automotive history already started off great… The convertible was delivered new in one of the sunniest places in the world, where cars don’t have to suffer because of weather conditions at all. Why would you say goodbye to a car that unique? The answer can be described in 4 words: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.

Condition interior & exterior

The first generation SL is known as one of the or THE most beautiful Mercedes ever made. The link to the legendary 300 SL "Gullwing" is made easily, since the similarities in appearance are very obvious. However, unlike the Gullwing, the 190 SL is more like a touring car, not a sports car. So the star sparkled mainly along boulevards in the past, instead of the racing circuit.
For the best result, the rare classic has had a body-off restoration. The car has been repainted with an original Mercedes lacquer. Every detail has been perfectly polished, others was given a new chrome finish. The soft-top is replaced and practically unused. The interior of the 190 SL pretty much got the same thoroughly treatment as the bodywork. The seats for example, has been completely reupholstered with red Mercedes leather. In short, this car is more than ready for the next concours!

Condition technique

The things that normally stay out of sight, also got the full attention: the 4-cylinder in-line engine with double carburetors and 105 horsepower, has been completely overhauled. The same goes for all other technical parts, if not they are replaced. But the best part is that every part has been modified while maintaining the originality of the model!
Speaking of original: the certificate of origin is included, as well as a photo album of the entire restoration process, and some before and after pictures. However, we’re more curious about the photos that will follow in the near future. And in particular: who took them.

Kind regards,
Prins Classics
